A Russian in Copenhagen

The Red Square is the huge place in Moscow which was used for military parades in the Soviet era – and still are. This is also the place where the Soviet leader Lenin lies embalmed in a mausulée. And from mid-August, the Red Square will also be the central part of Superkilen (the Super Wedge), the area from Nørrebrogade to Tagensvej in the Nørrebro quarter of Copenhagen. The entire area is fitted with street furniture from 57 different countries, including a Moroccan fountain and Indonesian swings – and the gigantic palette of reds, the Russian space with Russian and communist symbols. There is something to paint upon for colorful locals!
The plan for ‘the Super Wedge’ area should be divided into three zones with three different identity-colors, green, black and red. And the colors will form a sort of backdrop for the decoration.

The purpose of Super Wedge is also the integration of the area's immigrants into Danish society – by showing that Copenhagen appreciates their culture and origins. So many Russians will surely appreciate the new space (!). And in the other end of the park there are symbols of the United States for the benefit of U.S. immigrants.
More seriously, it's purpose as quoted from Copenhagen: »The project will help develop Mimersgade district for the benefit of residents and the rest of Copenhagen citizens. The Super Wedge must be a driver for positive development in the district both on the physical and the human level.«
